Only 4 percent love to buy electric cars

Only 4 percent of respondents who expressed interest in buying plug-in electric cars and 22 percent said they are interested in buying pure electric cars.

Meanwhile, most of the respondents or 78 percent said they were more interested in buying a plug-in hybrid vehicles are still using combustion engines to further the reach of the car. Therefore, limited coverage is said to be one of the major drawbacks of electric vehicles now.

Although electric-powered vehicles are considered as the vehicle of the future, most of the riders was still not interested in buying an electric car. Only a minority motorists are interested in buying.

This was revealed in a survey conducted by the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs in 21 major cities in the United States.

The survey involved 2300 adults in the fall of last year. And even though the survey was conducted last year, the researchers considered the results of the study are still relevant to the present situation because not much has changed in the electric car industry this year.

Currently, the three most popular in the world of electric cars, the Nissan LEAF and the Chevrolet Volt and the Mitsubishi i-MiEV still have no significant sales. Both brands were also known to have revised their targets because sales are not as expected.

Most, according to the study, lack of interest from the public to buy electric cars is because of ignorance related to the electric car itself so many preconceptions that are not based on facts.

According to the dean of the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs John Graham who designed the study, most respondents are still hesitant to spend more money to buy an electric car. As is known, the price of electric cars are currently more expensive than conventional cars.

Society though he had not realized at the beginning of higher pay, savings can be made electric cars could make the overall cost of car use so much cheaper than using a regular car.

The reason, electric cars do not need to buy expensive gasoline and if the funds to buy gas is collected in a few years to make electric cars actually cheaper than fuel-powered cars.

"They do not realize how cheap electricity., And it's very cheap, like 70 to 80 percent cheaper when using the calculation of average fuel consumption miles / liter," lugasnya like detkOto quotation from the New York Times.
