Tata Motors displayed electric car at Geneva Motor Show, the Indica Vista

QUEBEC- Many people were amazed by the accomplishments achieved by Tata Motors, India lately. In addition to making the world's cheapest car (Nano) last March, it gives a surprise, showing a prototype electric car again.

Last year, Tata displayed first electric car at Geneva Motor Show, the Indica Vista. Earlier March 2011, it was displaying the Nano Electric.

e-Motor
In fact, including electric motors, it was not made by Tata for electrical propulsion systems, but it was supplied from a Canadian company specialized in the field of electricity, namely TM4. Its products used by Tata was permanent magnet motor called TM4MOTIV.

According to Eric Azeroual, TM4's Business Development Manager, Tata has given an advanced their latest designs of electric motor. Electric motors had the advantage, because it was smaller, lighter and cheaper, in order that is suitable for all electric cars or plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Electric motor or an e-bike has been produced by company in recent years. Comparison between weight and powet is the best in its class.

TM4 itself was part of Hydro-Quebec and the company made hydroelectric generation in Canada. The company also has worked with electric cars to market Mitusbihi iMiEV in the city.

The company was able to produce 10,000 e-bikes per year. Designed motors was from 10 kW (for a golf cart) up to 660 kW (wind-powered generators and created the ship).

Europe
India's Tata motors bought 110TM4MΦTIVE as the first electric vehicle driving source, the Indica Vista Last year. Meanwhile, the # 2 Tata Motors, Ravi Kant ensured that the Indica Vista would be introduced in Europe next year.

Tata Motors also has chosen Miljø Innovasjon's Nowergia company had been bought to make the electronic control system. As for lithium-ion batteries purchased from Electrovaya, it was also from Canada.

Tata Nano Electric has demonstrated the concept using TM4 electric motor. Electric Nano replaced gasoline engines mounted on the rear wheels with 240 volt/400 amp motor and lithium-ion battery pack of 12 kWh developed together by Miljø Innovasjon.

Tata claimed the Nano lstrik four passengers, all contents of the batteries could be used for a distance of 160 kms with capability of acceleration from 0-60 kpj in 10 seconds.

Jump on Wheels
Great achievement has been successfully created ny TM4 to make electric motors directly mounted on wheels or hub-wheel.

To maximize torque, TM4 designs using inverted topology. Motor rotates outside the stator. According to Eric Azeroual, this configuration is capable mempebesar radius from the hub to the rotor, so the bigger moments.

Also as described above, an electric motor worked on high speed, 10,000 rpm. "The higher the motor rotation, also increased power density. The smaller motor size and price, of course, it is so much cheaper, "he explained.

For example, MΦ motor was 120 with weight 32 kgs producing maximum power of 120 kW or 37 kW for continousity) while maximum torque was 170 Nm (continousity 78 Nm). Comparison of power to weight was 4.6 kW / kg. For cooling the mixture of water and glycol 40: 60. Density was a very solid package for the motor from this company using a roll of flat cable.

"We have patents with shorter rolls. All TM4 electric motor designed to work with smart grid charging, "he said.
