United States Manufacturing, General Motors, was changed after a bankruptcy three years ago. One of the wind change is the emergence of a woman candidate to become CEO of the largest car company in the world.
Reported by Reuters on Tuesday (05/01/2012) General Motors Co. boss today that Daniel Akerson said Mary Barra (50), one of his colleagues in the management of GM, is one of the most potential to become the next CEO of GM.
Mary Barra is currently serving as Senior Vice President of GM Global Product Development.
Barra joined GM in 1980 and had filled several posts in manufacturing. Barra also actively involved in the process of restructuring the Opel brand.
Akerson said a woman cope with change better than men, and GM still needs to be changed after the bankruptcy in 2009 and received a bailout worth U.S. $ 50 billion from the U.S. government.
"I would not be surprised if he is elected later. It is the task of the board (to choose a successor to Akerson) not me. But many candidates," Akerson said while speaking in Palm Beach, Florida.
Akerson did not doubt the capabilities of women in the lead. According to Akerson, she was more influenced by her mother, who became manager in a store rather than his father.
