BMW-created new innovative electric turbocharger

According to reports F30Post, BMW patent filing states that the design they make can make a great engine response, especially during the transition between the idling condition / throttle and acceleration.

SYSTEM forced-induction power from the electric motor is not something new. However, implementing the system of 'forced air' is in production vehicles, are considered new for BMW. Therefore, BMW filed a patent application for Germany to design electric turbocharger.

Indeed, Mercedes-Benz has used forced induction system on the electric-powered cars beremblem 'compressor'. That means, if the BMW to patent this technology, then certainly has advantages not possessed by other manufacturers.

To understand the principle it works, you first must know what the pros and cons between the small turbo to large sizes.

Small easy to spin turbines and presents the pressure through the compressor. This model excels in presenting power at low rpm. Instead the model will lose thrust at high rpm.

Larger turbine takes time to rotate so as to create 'energy gap' or, known as the 'turbolag'. But with a larger compressor size it is able to present the abundant power at high rpm.

Twin-turbo system generally uses both a turbo model above to create better performance throughout the rev range the engine operation.

Our guess, act like a turbocharger electric BMW twin-turbo type or can be called hybrid turbo. Electric motors used to rotate the compressor in order to get the instant pressure. Later he became a conventional turbo that utilizes the power of the exhaust gas pressure to obtain additional power at higher rpm.

When stepped on the gas pedal, a direct electric-powered compressor rotates to produce enough pressure. When the turbine has reached a predetermined operating speed, he connected with a compressor to provide additional power to power the turbine rotation is taken from the exhaust air pressure like a conventional turbo.

The design of the BMW clutch utilizes a series of connected and disconnected automatically on both the compressor and turbine. This system ensures smooth working performance throughout the entire operating range and performance of the engine load conditions.

Amazingly, when the maximum pressure is reached, the electric motor serves as an alternator and generate electricity to charge the battery. This design eliminates the need for wastegate, because excessive rotation that you want can be utilized for other purposes.
