"Hurricane" is "Back to Future" released by GM

The original version was first introduced in Hurricane auto show in Melbourne, 42 years ago (1969), code-named RD001. Body design and technology are embedded in the original Hurricane describe the greatness of the vision of engineers and designers Holden at that time. Now the concept is already a reality and is already widely used. Thus, It's reasonable that "Hurricane" is "Back to Future"

Now, Holden under the auspices of General Motors and the only known in Australia want to get up and show the greatness of his past. "Holden has gone back to future," wrote the company, in a release and also distributed by GM to the world. This is done to attract the public because of Holden's version of the restorations exhibit phenomenal concept car, the "Hurricane" (Storm), in the event Motorclassica, Melbourne, 21 and 23 October.

Hurricane is Back to Future released by GM

From design, two-door sports car with the engine in the middle of this has superceper posture. It can be seen from the height of only 990 mm. Understandably, the sports car should be steady speed up and should also be aerodynamic. Amazingly, the body is made of aluminum and steel frames!

Attractive design of the Hurricane is a way of opening and closing the door. Much like the movement of shells, Holden called it a model of canopy and operated with a hydraulic system. When the driver and passengers into the cabin, will seat up and down again. Then, the pole wheel can be bent to facilitate the driver's seat, then moved again to a position in accordance with driver comfort.

At that time the engineers Holden also embed digital display technology, the guide path (now GPS), automatic station search waves, air-conditioning (AC) automatic, rear camera for parking, up to an automatic fire warning. Now all these technologies are already widely used for mass production cars. But in 1969, it was incredible!

"It feels terrific. What do we imagine it has had since 40 years ago," said Michael Simcoe, Executive Director of GMIO Design, the team that handles the restoration. Explained Pua, the car was originally created to study the trends and technologies for future products, including the use of metallic paint on the car first.

Advanced Security
Security features that interest is, the engine will not live if the door does not close and the passenger or the driver not wearing safety belts. Others, with fuel tank foam that can reduce heat and prevent fires.

Rick Martin, former studio head of Holden says, "Hurricane gave birth to original ideas and technology," ranging from air conditioning and seat belts with inertia reels triggers.

In the 1960s, GPS was developed by the U.S. only for field space. However, Holden has been "pinned" objects on the dashboard Hurricane similar function. In this case, Holden engineers do not use the satellite as a guide, but the magnets are planted at each intersection.

Direction sensors on this car a needle driver according to the desired goal. It is still simple, but it is something unimaginable before. There are also radio waves that can search for stations (currently active), so no need to rotate the knob. It is considered great!

Others, rear camera to assist the driver parked the car. For this, use CCTV cameras mounted on the back and plugged into a small black and white TV in center console car.

Vision of past greatness was shown again by Holden to the generation of "smart digital" today!

Engine technology was not spectacular, with a capacity of 4.2 liter V8 with the fuel supply system of four-barrel carburetor. Power output equivalent to 262 horses.
