The FIA Institute is trying to design a Formula 1 car racing future with the roof closed. If you remember or have ever seen, a lot of Le Mans prototype racing cars like the Audi R18 and Peugeot 908 using a 'glass' arc of polycarbonate.

CAR Formula 1 racing is increasing safety and security from year to year. Bak is now stronger carbon fiber to the point that almost indestructible. Although there are helmets, there is still a delicate subject. This car is not protected roof.
But for Formula 1 racing car, the FIA Institute research also was deciding canopy design that is often used by a variety of fighter jet. A future design should consider that the drivers are not too hot under the canopy.
Every effort is made to keep this extreme motor sport the less risk for injuring the drivers. No matter what the price that must be removed. Because human life is more valuable than anything.
