American Toyota Officially Opens First Hydrogen Station to support their products

Torrance - Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), United States, yesterday (10 / 5) inaugurated the first hydrogen refueling in the country of Uncle Sam. Result of cooperation between Toyota, Air Products, Shell, Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and the Department of Energy (DOE). Hydrogen is supplied directly from the industry by using a pipe connection.



This facility is only to provide hydrogen for fuel cell vehicle demonstration programs such as Toyota as owned by other manufacturers in Los Angeles.

"Building a hydrogen refueling infrastructure is an important step in vehicle sales to successfully participate," commented by Chris Hostetter, group vice president, Product & Strategy Planning TMS. According to Chris, it will start marketing hydrogen vehicles by 2015 or it could be faster. So, the infrastructure must be there first to support the needs of customers.

The place is close to the same charge of sales and marketing headquarters TMS. As the owner of the land, Toyota leases land to Shell as a nominal fee. Shell is the operator in cooperation with Air Product, which provides equipment, including gas pipeline from its plant in Wilmington and Carson, California.

"This is the first time Shell is working with vehicle manufacturers to develop a demonstration station," said Julian Evison, General Manager of Operations for Shell.

While Air Products play an crucial role to develop the Hydrogen Vehicle Authorization System (HVAS). This is being the first for the industry and it is unique in Torrance.
