Time, resources, and the brightest minds is what it is in General Motors' Mind— GM is continually assessing vehicles' environmental impact and taking steps to reduce it. We're committed to improving the fuel economy of all of vehicles while still providing the performance and utility that customers need and want.
United States Presidential Candidate from the Republican Party, John McCain, visited the Volt Design Center at General Motors Technical Center (GMTC) in Warren, Michigan (18 / 7). John McCain, who was accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of General Motors, Rick Wagonen time to watch the Chevrolet Volt, by which it is a hybrid car from General Motors.
Although General Motors (GM) called the Volt as an electric car, Volt is actually a hybrid car. In other brands, it is similar to the Volt car known as the hybrid plug-ins.
Volt is equipped with internal combustion engines (internal combustion engine) which it uses gasoline as fuel.
However, gasoline engine with a capacity of 1.0 liter, 3 cylinder in line, which it produces maximum power of 71 hp, it has no mechanical linkage to the wheels, like a conventional hybrid car.
Volt is driven entirely by electric motors powered 161 hp which it get electricity from lithium-ion battery. Gasoline engine is operated at 1,800 rpm per minute (rpm), it only serves as an electrical generator to supply (to recharge), power on lithium-ion batteries charged with running the electric motor. Thus, the gasoline engine is automatically alive if the battery power supply is decreased. And, after the battery is fully charged, the gasoline engine automatically switches off.
Batteries also can be charged by plugging the plug into the socket in the home, office, or other places providing electricity with a voltage 110-220 volts, with the charging time between 6 to 6.5 hours-ma. Cable with plug located on the left and right making it easier for recharging car done.
No life at all
By relying solely on battery, Volt mileage is only about 64 miles per hour. With an average mileage of people under 64 miles per day, it is said that the Volt gasoline engine carried no life at all so that no CO2 is released into the air.
With a gasoline engine assisted by a tank which it is filled as much as 45.4 liters, the Volt can travel as far as 1030 kilometers.
Volt can also use gasoline mixed with ethanol as fuel, to a maximum of 85 percent (E85), with no engine modifications to be needed.
Volt can accelerate from 0-100 kilometers per hour, to within 8.7 seconds.
Volt was firstly revealed at the Detroit Motor Show on January 7, 2007. However, to have a car, people still have to wait for two years because of expected new car will be manufactured in the year 2010.
