DETROIT - first key is not received by consumers Chevrolet Volt yet, General Motors (GM) has been thinking about the age of lithium-ion battery if it runs out. America's giant car manufacturers believe that the battery can still be updated to save energy and improve the efficiency of power source wind or solar.
Therefore, on Tuesday (09/22/2010), GM signed a memorandum of understanding with the ABB Group to expand Volt's "secondary/unused/former" battery recycling project. Both companies believe that there are cells in the battery still having an effective ability to store energy but it has been used as far as 160,000 miles or eight years as a limit on usage.
"Battery Volt has a significant capacity to store electrical energy. Even if, it use during the lifetime and beyond," said Micky Bly, GM's executive director for Electrical Systems, Hybrid, Electric Vehicles and Batteries. "That is why we are working with ABB to find a way to make the Volt battery provides benefits for the environment outside the highway."
According to an official press release from GM, ABB's largest electricity supplier network system in the world, so that this company has the proper knowledge about electricity storage methods. If it goes according to plan, Volt battery that has been recycled to be used for multiple purposes. Among others to store the energy generated wind power, solar or micro-hydro, or just be the energy source advocates in society.
