LONDON - The unit to be developed is a four-cylinder gasoline engine 1.6-liter to follow the FIA Super 2000 regulations.
Honda announced it will take part in the event of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) using the European version of the Civic.
Japanese car manufacturers will work together with Mugen and JAS Motorsport. As a first step, racing the engine assembly will be prepared which will be built by Honda R & D.
Furthermore, along with a team of J.A.S. Motorsport engine and the car will be developed simultaneously. Honda used cars based on the five-door Honda Civic. Its own production will be done at Honda Swindon.
"We've decided to take part in the WTCC event with the European Civic. We will develop a totally new engine for this project. We sanbat eagerly accepted this new challenge, "said Honda CEO Takanobu Ito.
