new metal's invented to change the aluminum or carbon fiber

Innovations developed by the California Institute of Technology, HRL Laboratories and the University of California-Irvine who managed to dramatically make a lightweight metal.

With the new metal that claimed 100 times lighter than this styrofoam, also predicted vehicle applied can increase efficiency up to a hundred times more than the current car's efficiency.

This new metal is not metal it is constructed from a series of dense tissue made from nickel-phosphorus micro. 'Rope' that form the network is claimed to be thinner than human hair because it has the size 100 nanometers or 1,000 times thinner than a human hair.

In addition, the new structure has a percentage of 99.99 percent air voids and micro networks only 0.01 percent of nickel-phosphorus.

Bill Carter from HRL Laboratories, said that new metal is applied on the potential for the automotive industry especially to replace the main structure of the automobile and airplane to have a light weight and become more fuel efficient.

Researchers also say that in fact the car can be built using materials that 99.99 percent is air.

"We revolutionized lightweight materials to bring this concept to a new level and the level designing their architecture on the nano and micro scale," explains Carter as detikOto quotes from Ward's Auto, Saturday (01/07/2012).

"Any type of internal car components that are not super-light or heavy metal can be replaced with a micro-grid," said research team member Julia Greer.

Actually, the new metal structure was developed for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency which is part of the United States Department of Defense.

But, the U.S. government did not want only those who take advantages of these innovations. Currently, car manufacturers General Motors and aircraft manufacturer Boeing has told interested in this new technology.

When during the aluminum or carbon fiber was chosen as the car manufacturer lightweight materials for the manufacture of cars, the new innovation created. A super-lightweight metal found. I was so light, the new metal is claimed to be 100 times lighter than Styrofoam.
