Competitive electric version of Chevrolet Spark


General Motors, the owner of the Chevrolet brand, has been producing the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid vehicles that run by electricity and equipped with conventional engines. When the power runs out, the engine 1400 cc will supply power to the vehicle.

Reuters reports that launch the planned electric version of Spark is part of the efforts of General Motors become "the most 'green' automotive companies" by dragging Toyota Motor Corp..

Chevrolet Volt nearest rival is the Nissan Leaf

"We welcome the competitors in this market," said CEO of Nissan Americas, Mark Perry told Reuters.

"We're glad GM has decided to produce a fully electric vehicle. This segment is even more valid," he said.

Electric vehicle market will be more crowded because of Ford Motor Co.. Focus will launch an electric version later this year. Toyota will launch the latest version of the Prius plug-ins.

Vehicles Chevrolet Spark mini-power version will be launched in 2013 with a target of rival Nissan Leaf.

"Chevrolet Spark will produce an electric version for the U.S. and global markets," said the head of a global team of engineers Chevrolet, Jim Federico in Detroit on Wednesday.
