GM in collaboration with SAIC Motor Corp plans to introduce 60 new models and upgraded models in China

Shanghai: To increase its market share, GM plans to introduce 60 new models and upgraded models in China over the past 5 years into the future. The Chinese government has its own target of 1 million electric vehicles on the road the country in 2015.

General Motors (GM) plans to hold the Chinese manufacturer SAIC Motor Corp. to develop similar Volt electric car. The plan was announced on Tuesday (20 / 9) in a joint press conference. Deputy Leader of GM Steve Girsky explained that GM will do the 50-50 joint venture with SAIC to develop electric cars are specially manufactured for the Chinese market.

The car will be designed by the Pan-Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC), a design studio run by both the manufacturer.

Electric cars that will be developed this will be entirely new, not adaptations of existing models like the Chevy Sonic, said Girsky. But he did not explain whether it be the result of cooperation mini car, and at what cost of production.

"The new technology is expensive and risky," said Girsky. "We will leverage partener .. suppose to minimize the risk and development costs, and we will bring the technology to market as soon as possible."

In line with this new project, GM also plans soon to a country selling  the Chevy Volt made by Bamboo Curtain. But Girsky hope the Chinese government will provide a further subsidy to the import of GM production cars like the Volt. "We hope the government Cona provide more incentives," he said.

GM and SAIC collaboration that has been done since 1997 has provided benefits to both manufacturers. SAIC is currently the largest local car manufacturer in China, while GM also is the largest manufacturer in the country outside.
