Sales of Volkswagen vehicles in the United States jumped 35 percent in June

Sales of Volkswagen vehicles in the United States jumped 35 percent in June. This has contributed sales rise 22 percent for the first half of this year and encourage the highest annual sales total in nearly a decade.

Volkswagen predicts 2011 sales could be over 300,000 units, sales last achieved in 2003. VW last year sold only 256,830 vehicles. Volkswagen sales in June reached 28,444 units. Whereas in 2003, VW sold 302,686 in the United States.

"In the first half of this year we have reached volume as seven months of last year," said Jonathan Browning, CEO of Volkswagen America, said in a statement released by Automotive News, Wednesday, July 6, 2011. "We hope this momentum could continue in the second half of this year."

Browning says, June is the best month for VW in the last nine years. Jetta sales in June was led by the redesign, which rose 88 percent in June and 66 percent for the first six months.

Browning estimated that the shortage of Japanese competitors because of the earthquake March 11, will provide an additional 10,000 sales in 2011 VW Jetta.

VW is preparing to launch the Passat sedan and the Beetle redesign for the United States. The car was built at a new plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., went on sale this fall.
