Detroit - Chrysler Group LLC, which is famous for its big cars like the grim Jeep and Dodge, said it plans to begin trial production of Minicars or small cars in the second half of this year. According to Fred Goedtel, Head of Vehicle Assembly Chrysler, the manufacturer will assemble small car in the Dodge brand line at Chrysler's assembly plants, Belvidere, Illinois, United States.

"We will launch this pioneering project in the fall," said Goedtel as quoted by Automotive News.
The development plan itself is a small car to meet U.S. government requirements for Fiat, the Italian automotive manufacturer, can fully buy the government stake in the bankrupt manufacturer's in 2009.
Fiat to buy a five percent stake in the U.S. government to be able to control 52 percent stake in Chrysler.
To own the remaining shares of the U.S. government requires that Fiat was developing cars with a capacity of 40 miles per gallon, or approximately 0.42 kilometers per liter in the U.S..
