Stereo Camera anticipates to Reduce Pedestrian Victims

CONTINENTAL has developed a stereo camera system to helpreduce the number of pedestrian casualties are injured or killed by a hit by a car. Continental states, nearly half of cases in Germanycause injury accidents and pedestrian deaths.

This system applies two high resolution cameras that workin stereoscopic to detect pedestrians who may not be visible to thedriver. If the system detects a person walking in front of you, will automatically activate the emergency brake.
Stereo camera is also not just detect pedestrians, but also can estimate how far the distance and height of objects. Single camera to detect the presence of someone, but could not detect thedistance and height accurately.
If the emergency brake is not considered as an appropriate option, this tool could be developed for other actions such as avoiding, for example. This system is still in development, but the ability todetect pedestrians proved to be very accurate and reliable so it ispossible to immediately produced.
