FORD is currently developing a new feature on the car seat that can monitor heart rate through sensors embedded on the back of his back.
This project is a joint development between Ford's European Research and Innovation Centre in Aachen, Germany and Achen University's Rheinisch-Westfalische Technische Hochschule (RWTH).
The six-point seat utilizing embedded sensors to detect electrical pulses generated by the heartbeat. Such data can be used as a detector for drivers who have problems or heart problems.
"As we know in medicine, the earlier the symptoms that can be detected will become increasingly easy to treat and handle people with heart problems," said Dr. Achim Lindner from Ford's European Research and Innovation Centre in the medical section.
Even according to Dr. Lindner, this technology can be potentially as an instrument to diagnose the condition of the driver that they never realized before.
Ford believes the technology will be very useful in the future with the increasing number of older riders who still do the activity driving on the highway.
