Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and For's Lincoln MKZ get semi-finalist entry in the ranks of the Green Car of the Year 2011 for the category of hybrid cars

Brand-new hybrid sedan made by Hyundai Motors, Hyundai Sonata hybrid, get semi-finalist entry in the ranks of the Green Car of the Year 2011 for the category of hybrid cars. Sonata is now competing with Ford's Lincoln MKZ.

As reported by worldgreencar.com, Saturday (23/10), both the sedan having a fuel consumption rate is not far adrift. Sonata Fuel consumption is at 40 miles per gallon (mpg) or about 17 kilometers per liter (KPL) and the Lincoln MKZ at 41 mpg or it is 17.4 MPA on the freeway.

Ron Cogan, Green Car Journal Editor, as organizers said the celebration was nominated for this gift consists of different cars with different technologies. "We conducted an assessment of the pure electric car, hybrid, gasoline engines, diesel engines or engines with which those use alternative fuels," he said as quoted by automotivenews.com, Friday (22/10).


Hyundai Sonata sedan hybrid is Hyundai's firstly produced hybrid using the Blue Drive Technology. The car was equipped by conventional engines of 2400 cc and an electric motor. Each produces power 169 and 40 horsepower.

While Ford Lincoln MKZ hybrid is bearing 2,500 cc four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. Combined they produce power 191 horsepower.

Besides the two cars, the jury also include the Ford Fiesta 1400 cc petrol engine as the nominees side by side with the Chevrolet Volt and the electric-powered Nissan Leaf.

Winners will be announced during the media preview of the title Los Angeles Auto Show on 18 November.
